Today I will share why I think self-care is so important and discuss the benefits of a daily skin care routine!  

 

But first, what is self care?  Self-care isn’t a luxury, it’s a life necessity!  It’s intentionally making time to care for our bodies & minds in order to optimize physical, mental and spiritual health.  Why is it more important now than ever?  Because we’re living through a time of uncertainty...we’re trying to protect our health and our families...even just a few minutes time out from external distractions can help us to reset, rewire and replenish the energy we need to get through the day...  Now is the time to prioritize self-care practices because it’s the secret weapon to keeping ourselves and our families safe and SANE!

  1. CLEAR YOUR SKIN - Skin is the largest organ of the body and serves as our first line of defense from microbial infection, pollution and particulate debris.  Natural skin care that won’t clog your pores or strip your skin improve hygiene best practices; rendering them more effective.  Plant based skin care deliver antioxidants, vitamins and minerals to feed the skin reinforcing your skin natural protective barrier.
  2. CLEAR YOUR VANITY - If there are any natural claims on the front of the products you use - be sure to still read and compare that to the ingredient listing on the back.  You want to be sure any vitamins, minerals, butters or other natural ingredients are listed at the very top - ideally top 3 - to be sure there is a high enough concentration of plant based actives to deliver nutrients and antioxidants to the skin!

CLEAR YOUR AIR - Steam by boiling water with citrus fruits for 20 mins.  Lemon, orange and lime peel can be placed throughout your home to freshen the air and can offer some therapeutic benefits as well.  Plants like aloe are also known to be great air purifiers.  I use a diffuser with essential oils like tea tree, pine, cinnamon, peppermint, lemon, juniper during the day or chamomile and lavender at night. .
